New signing Stuart Parnaby has said that the facilities the Hartlepool team are being treated to in our Spanish training camp are amongst the best he’s ever experienced as a footballer so far, so he’s determined to make the most of it ahead of the coming season.

Speaking to the Official Site the 31 year old explained that the squad were definitely being put through their paces in training, but everybody was aware of how important this week, and the work, will be to our preparations.

‘I have thoroughly enjoyed the first couple of days. It wasn’t too hard on the first day because of the travelling we did but we were up early this morning for a 4K run which was a nice wake up call – but when the weather is like this you don’t want to be lying in bed all day!’

Parnaby goes on to describe the facilities as being ‘unbelievable’ so the squad really have nothing to complain about, as he knows many other players at fellow clubs will have returned to their pre season training workouts without having this opportunity available to them.

‘You can’t complain, I’d say throughout my career this is up there with the very best places I’ve been in pre season so we have to use it as a base to show what we can do. We’ve got five star facilities and we’ve got to make the most of it, we couldn’t ask for a better pitch to do our ball and fitness work, so we’ll have no excuses coming home.’

Of course a training camp away from home brings one other fantastic advantage for the group, it allows them to bond and it allows the new players to really integrate with the group because they are constantly together.

On that score, Parnaby adds.

‘The atmosphere in the group is good, we’ve got a very young group but for me, this week is as simple as getting to know everyone’s names so I don’t cock that up and then getting a feel for everyone’s character. Then you can work out how much Mickey-taking and how many of my sarcastic comments I can get away with!’

Makes you wish you could do it doesn’t it Pooliemikel. It’s not an easy life by any means but seems about as close to it as you can get for what is called ‘a job’ doesn’t it!
