Money Talks I’m Afraid Coops

I admire Coops issuing a ‘hands off’ warning to clubs sniffing around for our best players, and I sincerely hope that we are able to keep them but the reality is that money talks doesn’t it!

When this talks, usually, the players walk as well.

I’m not being pessimistic here it’s more along the lines of realism I feel as we’re a League 2 club who will always be in need of financial backing and sometimes you have to accept that selling your best assets is a must.

Accepting the first offer presented isn’t our way, at least it shouldn’t be, but if reported interest in Luke James and Brad Walker does get followed up with firm interest from any of the clubs that regularly scouted them last season then I can only see them going the same way as Jack Baldwin did last season when he left for Peterborough United on transfer deadline day in January.

Coops wants to build a squad, he’s trying to do this, but if Sheffield Wednesday follow up reported interest with a firm offer it’ll be hard for the 19 year old to resist the Championship but at the same time he’ll also want to go where he has the best chance of playing regularly, I would hope that came into the mix anyway.

‘The message I would say to some of my younger players who may have that, or their agents, is that they don’t go anywhere unless I decide otherwise.’

That line was among other things Coops said in sportmail was. I don’t think it would actually be as black and white as that but I appreciate the sentiment.

We’ll all be keeping our thoughts realistic, Coops is saying what you’d expect him to be saying as Hartlepool manager but he’ll also know deep down his thoughts are easier said than done.
