Halifax Town manager Chris Wilder has turned down the opportunity to be interviewed for the vacant Hartlepool United managers job.

Shaymanonline.org are this morning reporting that Pools approached Halifax Town asking for permission to speak to Wilder about the vacant Victoria Park hotseat, the official Halifax Town website is also running the story but they do not confirm that the club who made the approach is Pools.

Despite being offered the opportunity to move up into the Football League Wilder declined the invitiation to attend an interview in favour of staying with the Conference Play Off final loses.

Wilder has been in charge at the Shay for four years and during his time he has built a capable side on a shoestring budget. It is not known whether Wilder applied for the position to be Pools boss or if Pools owners IOR and Sporting Director Chris Turner made a direct approach out of the blue.

Halifax Town General Manager Angie Firth told the club’s official website:-

“We are delighted Chris Wilder decided not to pursue the interest shown in him. Chris is an excellent Manager, and this approach just proves what a great job he is doing here at The Shay, and that his efforts and achievements are not going unnoticed further up the divisions.”

Although it’s disappointing Wilder has turned down to opportunity of an interview, it is encouraging that we are finally starting to see some progress in the hunt for a new gaffer.

Shaymanonline.org has been talking rubbish. We have not apporached him according to a statement from the club, “Hartlepool are not in the business of approaching other club’s managers”.
