Turner Inviting Transfer Pressure Onto Himself

Despite our lacklustre home form, it hasn’t been a bad start to the season for Pools. While the table isn’t really worth bothering with at this stage it’s still nice to see us sitting comfortably in mid-table.

New signings like Scott Flinders have made a good impact but I think Chris Turner is inviting pressure on himself by talking about other clubs looking at our players already.

Last Tuesday Turner made the following statement in the paper ”I would be very surprised if there wasn’t some interest in four or five of our players in January.”

While some of them have impressed so far, it’s only been a few games. There’s a big difference between impressing at the start of a season for a new club and doing it week in, week out.

Now, this morning the Sunderland Echo are reporting Celtic are interested in Gary Liddle. Now usually you could dismiss this as paper talk but once again Chris Turner is quoted.

”I would not be surprised at all if Celtic were interested. When we played West Brom last season, Tony Mowbray was really enthusiastic about Gary Liddle after the game.” he says in the article.

Again, I don’t understand why he needs to comment on this matter and add fuel to the fire. I thought the club didn’t comment on transfer talk until it was a done deal?

Given the sums of money Turner was allowed to spend on new players this summer I’d have thought that we were in a position where we could reject offers for our players unless it was a considerable sum.

Maybe he has spent to much and needs to sell to balance the books.

it wouldnt surprise me if ior are telling him to raise interest in the squad. They dont normally spend much on the squad, now they have they want some back

I expect some team that really needs a lucrative Cup run will be coming in with a big money offer for David Foley

(The only time I ever saw him play we were a goal down when he came on half way through the second half and scored twice – and I’ve seen his goal against Stoke on TV – so as far as I know he’s the best striker we’ve had since Joe Allon!)
