Unsurprisingly Nathan Thomas isn’t going to join Hartlepool in the National League next season as he’s completed his transfer to Sheffield United.

The Official Site confirmed an undisclosed fee has taken former Plymouth and Mansfield midfielder Thomas to Sheffield United. Having accepted an offer from the Championship side, Thomas completed his medical and agreed personal terms to join the League One champions.

A player who often contested the Goal of the Month competition himself, Thomas, 22, left Victoria Park scoring 14 goals in 56 appearances following his arrival from Mansfield in January 2016.

Darlington-born Thomas admitted he had ‘a conversation’ with his hometown Middlesbrough but Sheffield United was the club he was set on.

He told BBC Radio Sheffield: ‘I was never going to choose anyone else. I had a conversation with Middlesbrough but it wasn’t going anywhere. I had my heart set on Sheffield United. It just felt like a really good place to be. Nobody else was going to turn my head.’

Concerned about playing in the National League, that’s a worry Thomas no longer has.

Adding: ‘I can go away now without having to worry about playing in the National League. It allows me the time to prepare for the level I need to be at now. I can work in the off-season to make myself a better player.’
