Pools To Sign Neil Alexander?

Danny Wilson may be out of the country but we’re still getting linked with many players, this time its goalkeeper Neil Alexander.

Last month Alexander was released by Cardiff City after 6 years at Ninian Park. He played 41 times last season but was dropped after a mistake in the match against Sunderland in March. Manager Dave Jones singled out Alexander for particular criticism:

‘Neil Alexander is a shot-stopper and it was a shot he should have stopped. Simple as that.’

The Scottish International was replaced in goal and did not play again for the club but many fans thought this was unfair. A poll showed 84% of fans wanted him as the #1 for the 2007/08 season.

Here are some thoughts on him from a Cardiff Fan

‘A relatively short goalkeeper, Alexander was never particularly confident commanding his area or collecting crosses. He made up for it with some acrobatic saves and is primarily a shot-stopper.’

‘Alexander has never saved a penalty for the Bluebirds, he did in fact stop one penalty last season but the rebound was converted and the statistic is a worrying one for such a good shot-stopper.’

I think he’d be a great signing, he’d played most of last season for Cardiff and it seems he only left after being unfairly singled out by a under fire manager.

He’s 29 which is a perfect age for a goalkeeper, however it also seems that he isnt very commanding. I would say this may not be a problem with our big strong back line.

For me he’s a good signing, quite similar to Provett but far more experienced.

Sorry but I cant see him going to Hartlepool, he’s an excellent keeper and is better than the average Championship keeper – good luck if u do get him!
