The Hartlepool United squad have planned a special tribute for Michael Maidens during the game against Brighton at Victoria Park on Saturday.

In a tribute to the Pools youngster each player will wear the name ‘Maidens’ above their usual sqaud number during the game on Saturday.

Club captain Mickey Barron spoke about the idea “It was something the lads thought about straight away.”

Mickey Barron “It will be a good tribute to him and I am certain that Saturday will be a very emotional day for everyone.”

Barron also told the official site that he visited the memorial at the ground but some players were too emotional to visit straight away “A few of us laid some flowers at the ground on Monday afternoon and read some of the lovely messages there.

“On Monday we knew we had to train but all the lads were shell-shocked and it was about making sure that all your team-mates were ok.

“I’ve spoken to the rest of the lads and said that whenever they’re ready they should go and do the same even if it upsets them because it’s a nice way for us to remember him.”
