Pools Déjà vu

We’ve been here before haven’t we, a real sense of déjà vu in more sense than one as Sam Collins is not only back in caretaker charge of Pools but he’s back in caretaker charge for what’s been claimed will be an extended spell.

Collins was set for an extended run last time, which lasted a little while before Paul Murray came in.

Murray became the shortest serving Pools manager though when our former player lasted just 44 days in his maiden job as a manager, like Coops before him not fairing too well having taken the plunge into management for the first time.

Then again maybe it’s a case of ‘it’s not me it’s you’ for both!

When Collins stood in after Coops moved on he remained in charge for three weeks and a similar period could be the case this time around, but with so many League 2 games coming up, and with each one that passes it means one less to save our Football League status and close the six point gap, a decision needs to be made sooner rather than later.

The Pools board must get this one right though, basically they’ve admitted (without admitting) that they got the Murray appointment wrong by sacking him so soon.

I’m not so sure about Brian Laws really but I’m very much of the opinion that an experienced head is definitely needed this time so as much as Craig Hignett did a good job alongside Coops previously would now be the right time for him to cut his teeth as a manager with us? You couldn’t help by feel we’d be facing déjà vu yet again!

Gary Mills, Dave Hockaday and Paul Cox, all names mentioned too, don’t inspire me at all and Nobby Solano coming back to the Vic would see him fall into the same category as Hignett, but with even less experience.

If an inexperienced name is going to be selected you would think it has to be Collins but Laws on a contract until the end of the season with Collins, or Hignett even, working alongside him as a possible longer term solution could be the right way for us to go.
