When you hit rock bottom they do say that the only way is up, but realistically it could still be down for Pools with League 2 relegation looking more likely all the time, unless something changes and fast.

Scott Flinders has told SportMail that he feels that now we’ve hit rock bottom, and any debates about this being the case can’t be had, the only way is up.

Defeat to Blyth Spartans was a new low, it was what he called the worst moment of his career, and a low that the Pools captain doesn’t feel that the fans deserve with the results something that need to come with this starting against promotion chasing Burton.

‘We need to start picking up results to get ourselves going a bit. There is only one way we can go from here and we need to show real character.

‘We are at rock bottom – no two ways about it.

‘The only way is up though and we started at the weekend working towards Burton.

‘We need to put this right and to give something back to the supporters. They do not deserve this at all.’

Immediately after the Blyth defeat I felt that we would go one of two ways, meekly slipping out of the Football League without a fight or that would spur us on to battling under Paul Murray and turning this around.

Any battling will now be done under Sam Collins again for now, and whoever becomes our third manager of the season but the intentions remain the same.

The only way it up? I sure hope Flinders is right.
