Hartlepool United manager Neale Cooper says he couldn’t believe the decision to award a penalty to Sheffield United at Victoria Park on Saturday.

Referee Carl Boyseon initially waved away penalty claims when Ched Evans fell to the floor in the box, but changed his mind when assistant David McCallum flagged soon after.

After the game Hartlepool boss Cooper said he still couldn’t believe the decision, which cost his side a well earned point against the promotion contenders.

”The referee never gave it, the linesman gave it. I thought both players actually slipped.” he told the BBC.

”Ched Evans is a good player and likes to back into centre-halves, but I just couldn’t believe he gave it. But that happens in football, and we still went for it and kept putting them under pressure and Antony Sweeney was very unlucky not to get an equaliser in the dying seconds.”

The linesman only gave it after a thousand shef fans shouted pen, and he thought, oh god they use to be a big club and must always be given everything, and there fans can’t be wrong.
