Hartlepool United captain Sam Collins says he has no plans to retire from football.

The 35-year-old former Hull and Port Vale defender has featured 34 times for Pools this season and says he has no plans to bring his playing career to a close just yet.

”I’m sure the press think my legs are going to pack in! But I feel good and fitness wise I’m fine.

”I had that problem with my calf at Walsall and I thought I was going to be out for a while, maybe even the season. I had a scan and all I’d done was burst a vein.”

But Collins, who joined the club in January 2008, said that despite his recent injury not being as serious as first thought, he is still playing through the pain barrier.

”I spoke to the physios and they said if I could handle the pain then I could play – so of course I said yes. So it’s a plus to be back and able to play in these matches.” he told the Mail.
