Hartlepool United have announced that midfielder Gary Liddle has been released.

After an unimpressive season, Pools have announced the player has left the club. It is thought Liddle was offered a new deal on reduced terms, but the club and player were unable to reach an agreement.

Liddle joined the club from Middlesbrough in 2006 and was part of Pools’ promotion winning side in his debut season.

Initially deployed as a defender, Liddle moved to midfield soon after the club’s return to League One and made 274 starts during his six-year spell at the Vic, scoring 21 goals.

Gary Liddle’s departure comes on the same day it was confirmed that Nobby Solano has left the club. The pair join Adam Boyd, James Brown, Callum Hassan, Colin Larkin and Steve Haslam in leaving the club.

Not a surprise I’m afraid. Good player but he needs a change of scenery, he’s gone a bit stale the last year or two. I have a feeling we’ll prob see him back at the Vic with another League One side next season.
