After Hartlepool United escaped the drop into League Two, after a shameful 4-1 defeat at Bristol Rovers yesterday, trips to Exeter and newly-relegated Norwich have been confirmed.

Norwich who only were relegated from the top-flight just 4 years ago, suffered a 4-2 defeat this afternoon at the hands of Charlton.

Charlton and Southampton were condemned to life in League One before today’s game, with many fears Southampton could go out of business, despite Matt Le Tissier reportedly leading a group to buy the troubled Saints.

Exeter secured promotion after a 1-0 win away at Rotherham. It was the Grecians second successive promotion, and Exeter will provide a stern test for their opponents next season at St James Park.

4 years ago, Exeter were plying there trade in the conference while the Saints were in the Premier League, now they will come head-to-head in a league match for the first time since 1958, when Southampton romped to a 6-0 win.

Alongside Exeter, Wycombe secured promotion on goal difference, despite a 2-1 defeat against Notts County. Brentford, we already know went up as champions last week.

The trio will be joined by either Bury, Gillingham, Shrewsbury, or a Rochdale side who will be hoping to win promotion to the third tier for the first time in over 35 years.

Pools fans can look forward to long away trips to The Valley, St Mary’s, Carrow Road, St James Park, Adams Park, and Griffin Park.

Exeter is a proper old school ground.

I should replace is with has… It’s a nice little city. However, Hartlepool will probably have them away on a Tuesday night and Exeter will probably have to come up to Hartlepool on a Friday.

Living in the South, I’m looking forward to visiting Brentford, Wycombe, Charlton, possibly Exeter. It’s going to be a lot easier for me to see Pools.. unfortunately the away form has been awful at the games I’ve seen this season though..
