An Alternative View On Chris Turner

This afternoon we published an interview with the Stockport Vital Football publisher StockportJack. Since that interview went live we’ve received a couple of emails, the following is an alternative view from another Stockport County season ticket holder…

‘I?d heard this rumour that you were getting him back. Good luck to him, to say that he was hated is nonsense. Admittedly the 6 nil reversal at Macc on Boxing Day did generate a lot of anger, a lot of it aimed at CT but equal amounts at some of the players.

I would say that overall most County fans liked him and really wanted him to succeed. The way that I see it is this: start of this season he had us playing some really decent stuff most of the time; unfortunately we had no luck and kept drawing games that we?d dominated (and occasionally losing them).

Everyone felt that one win would kick start the season (away at Shrewsbury is a good example when we were winning 2-1 and then gave away that comedy goal when their striker hid behind our keeper). As it went on like this confidence started to go ? you?ve seen it before, players start to get the jitters because with each game it gets more important to get that win. And so with confidence dropping, so did performances and it became a downward spiral, culminating in the Boxing Day horrors. It was really only then that the fans turned on CT ? and to be fair, you can see why.

Overall I don?t think he?s a bad manager ? it just didn?t work out with us (it happens with most managers at some point in their careers).

What would really p*ss me off would be if he tried to take Matt Hamshaw to Pools..! ‘

Many thanks to Duncan who forwarded these views on to us.

Maybe hate was the wrong word to use. But the scenes at Macclesfield were unbelievable. Especially from the Carlisle match onwards we were poor.

Good luck to Chris if he’s there, and when I met him he was a nice bloke.

Yes, he is a nice bloke. Have Stockport improved since he left?
