Hartlepool United caretaker manager Paul Stephenson has ruled himself out of the running to be the next Hartlepool United manager.

Speaking to website ICTeesside (aka the Evening Gazette) Stephenson said:-

‘I love coaching. There’s some coaching involved in management but I love going out there on the training pitch and working with the players. I think that’s where my strengths lie.

It’s been exciting being caretaker manager but it’s not something I want to do long-term.

All I’ve been told is that I’ll be doing the job until further notice, Hopefully I’ll still be doing it tonight!

We’ll probably speak after the weekend about what’s going to happen in the future. It’s be silly for me to get involved in all that when I’ve got a big game to prepare for.’

So we turn our attentions back to former boss Chris Turner, with many pundits predicting Turner’s return as a done deal it would obviously come as no surprise if a club text message came through today announcing his appointment. However there’s a school of thought that says Paul Stephenson may just find himself in charge for a little longer than he expects.

A win tonight and maybe the board will hand Stephenson the job until the end of the season, then we will throw the net out far and wide and see who’s interested, afterall 80 people applied for the Torquay job you know!!

I think a few more performances and results like Friday night and Paul Stephenson may change his mind on this one!

A win tonight and the ‘board’ may start thinking he’s the answer. The players seem very happy with him.
