Weekend Overview:

With Leeds playing in the FA Cup against Tottenham, Norwich moved to top of the table with a 1-0 win against Brentford. Yeovil moved into the top half of the table after a hard-fought 2-1 win at home to Exeter.

Both Millwall and MK Dons moved closer to the play-off positions in the league table with respective victories. The Lions beat struggling Oldham 1-0 at Boundary Park. MK Dons, meanwhile, remain out of the top six only by goal difference after a 1-0 win at home to Tranmere.

Bristol Rovers also consolidated their place in the top half with a 2-0 triumph over Hartlepool at the Memorial Stadium.

Relegation strugglers Wycombe snatched a point away at Southend, earning a 1-1 draw at Roots Hall. Carlisle were held 0-0 at Brunton Park by rock-bottom Stockport County. Finally, promotion hopefuls Colchester were held 0-0 at home by Gillingham.

Midweek Overview:

Norwich extended their lead at the top of the table with a crucial 1-2 win over a gutsy Walsall side at the Banks’s Stadium. Leeds United, however, suffered another blow to their League One title hopes having suffered a heavy 3-0 defeat, this time against Swindon.

Colchester who boosted their promotion hopes with a 2-0 win over play-off hopefuls MK Dons. Similar could be said for Millwall who moved into the play-off places with a comfortable 2-0 win over Southend.

Brentford still stand an outside chance of making the play-offs thanks to a late equaliser in a hard fought draw with Southampton. It finished level, as well, at Victoria Park as Hartlepool ended a five-match losing streak with a point against strugglers Gillingham.

Carlisle put distance between themselves and the drop zone in a five-goal thriller against Exeter at St James Park.

Tranmere edged closer to safety with victory over Yeovil. Meanwhile bottom side Stockport had their hopes of notching their second league win at Edgeley Park dashed by a last minute Brighton equaliser which keeps the Seagulls out of the relegation zone.

This Week’s Star-man:

I was going to give the star-man performance to Schofield of Milwall (who deserves an honourable mention) but then I noticed Chris Martin appearing in the Team of the Week for the second time in as many weeks. The Canaries youngster has scored 16 goals in 22 games in all competitions and over the last few weeks it has been his vital goals, 5 in the last 4 games, that have sent Norwich to the top of League One.
