Will The Chris Turner Revolution Become A Reality?

Hartlepool United fans have been debating whether Chris Turner is the right man to lead Pools into the new season.

Over in the Vital Hartlepool forums and in our article comments, discussions between those who think that he’s the man for the job and those who think he’s past his best have been ongoing.

Turner left us for ‘the next best job’ that came along. I do not believe Turner is the man for the job and I am very skeptical about him being Director of Football. Danny Wilson was sacked for ‘a bad run of form’ yet Turner had a worse run of results with the same team.

Surely that already tells us that Turner is not up to the task. I would much prefer to see a manger with vast knowledge of the lower leagues come in to take the club forward.

I personally dont agree with the view that Turner can’t be the man to renew hope on the field of play. Whoever stepped into the breach last season was going to to get the backlash of our failings if a ‘miracle turnaround’ didnt occur.

Turner being at the club already was on to a hiding to nothing the minute he took over the reigns. Some deadwood, and some good players, have left us and the rebuilding is in progress. The proof is in the pudding and time will tell if Turner does or doesn’t turn it around but to me its looking more positive.

Turner did not leave for the ‘next best job’ he left to manage his home town team which he had supported since a youth, lets just wait and see.

If Turner stood in the way of Wilson’s transfer decisons he would of been blamed for not allowing the manager to buy the players HE wants, so to blame Turner for Wilson’s reign in charge is very harsh. His transfers have been excellent too. The right side is now complete with talented players there.

A goalkeeper with hot talent and determined to prove his worth is in, Boydy has returned with eagerness and an eye-for-goal. Things are on the up. Turner is spending wisely, and buying wisely. Looking in the right market, Everything is wonderful I for one can’t wait for Turner’s revolution. he is hungry once again.

Do you really think that Turner would have had no input if he thought Wilson was bringing in bad players? I find that hard to believe. Turner had influence on decisions.

Read any interview on any singing by DW. He always clearly stated that without the support and backing of IOR and Chris Turner the transfers would not have been possible. The general job outline for a Director of football is to be the ‘go between’ the manager and board/chairman. he is there 2 assist both parties and usually the board/chairman will seek his approval on all football related matters that concern the club. That includes transfers in and out.

Turner is nailed on manager so I think we need to give him support, he has brought in some quality players the most in a few seasons so lets see were they take us.

Have you still got James Brown / Ritchie Jones, perchance?!

  • PooliePoolie says:

    We certainly do.

  • Matt_Us says:

They looked good against us on the first day when you ripped us apart!

  • PooliePoolie says:

Hopefully Brown can stay fit this season and Jones will only be played in the middle instead of being wasted on the right.

  • Matt_Us says:

Jones didn’t do that much for us when he was on loan while we were in the Campionship. Did we miss out by not signing him or was his goal against us last term a bit of a fluke?

  • HUFCSCOTTY says:

now we have mcsweeney he wil be playing in his favored position

  • PooliePoolie says:

I am a huge fan of Jones, not sure if he’s Championship quality just yet but if he’s allowed to play regularly in the centre of midfield this season then I’m confident he’ll shine.

  • HUFCSCOTTY says:

i thought he had a good end to the season

  • moscrof says:

yeah it was like wilson was holding him back and turner gave him a new lease on life

  • EddTheDuck says:

I’m just wondering whether the Turner revolution will become a reality.
