Mick Wadsworth will be retained as caretaker manager having spoken with chairman Ken Hodcroft about his immediate future at the League One club.

”The chairman wants me to carry on and has a lot of faith in the people here.” Wadsworth told BBC Tees ”I’ve got a job, a contract and I’ll honour that situation.”

Wadsworth added that he was only looking to near future ”I never look too long term anyway, unless I’m looking at the youth programme, but at the moment the club is in the situation that it’s in – we’ve got what we’ve got.”

Since the departure of Chris Turner, the former Carlisle United and Gretna boss has overseen a 2-0 win at Yeovil as well as Tuesday’s 3-0 Carling Cup defeat by Premier League side Wigan.

And the 59-year-old has faith in his squad and coaching personnel to help continue a start which has seen the club rise to eighth in the League One table after four games.

”We’ve got a group of players, that I don’t think will change, and I don’t think anything will happen drastically in the next few weeks.” he added.

”It might mean a bit of bending and merging of job titles, I’ll be leaning on people like Micky Barron, Richie Humphreys, Sam [Collins] and Paul Murray, because they’re experienced.

”With reserve games and the training programme, we’re all going to have to muck in and make the thing work, and I know we will and I find it interesting and exciting.

”This isn’t tough in that the club is in decent shape, we’re not short of players, we’ve got a fairly sizeable squad, so at least the working environment is very good. I’ve thoroughly enjoyed my time here and I hope I’ll continue to do so.”
