Hartlepool United’s Director of Sport Chris Turner says he expects Andy Monkhouse and Michael Nelson to stay with the club.

Both players are out of contract this summer but the club have already offered them new deals. Despite this, speculation continues to link both players to other clubs but Turner says they won’t find better deals anywhere else.

”We’ve made them what I think for the present climate in football is a very good offer to stay at the club. I would like them to sign – there’s no doubt about it.

”If they were to leave Hartlepool, I think they would only be leaving to go to a big club. We can match what any other club can match salary wise at this present time in our division.”

He said that he’d spoken to both players and that unless a huge offer comes in for them, they should stay at Victoria Park.

”If a club were to make them an ultra attractive offer, we wouldn’t be able to compete with that. But does a player want to leave this area, is the grass greener on the other side?

”I spoke to Michael and Andy yesterday on what we want and what we’re looking to bring in. We’re looking forward positively and we’d like those two to be involved.”
he told the Mail.
