Hartlepool United caretaker manager Chris Turner has said that Pools strikeforce can fire the club to safety this season.

Pools have one of the worst defences in the league but Turner said that it won’t matter if the attackers keep scoring.

”Going forward and creating chances we are probably a top eight side, especially at home. But at the other end of the field, we are where we are. That’s the problem.” he said.

”I think it’s elation at scoring and then conceding, concentration and leadership. We’ve got some experienced players in those positions and it’s costly at times.

”But what can you do about it at this late stage of the season?”

Turner said that Pools look weaker on their travels but need to keep attacking ”From my point of view, it’s a dilemma because do you take away from the attacking and go defensive and hope they get some clean sheets and dig out some 0-0’s.

”But can anyone think we’ll keep a clean sheet away from home? I’ve kept it going the other way so hopefully we can get some goals to alleviate the problem.

”The goalkeeper gets the criticism for it all but there’s a different goalkeeper in there on Saturday (Jan Budtz) and he’s let two goals in.

”It’s not the goalkeeper – it’s what’s in front of him doing the job.”
he told the Hartlepool Mail.

”It’s not the goalkeeper – it’s what’s in front of him doing the job.” well why not put clarky and Nelson in defence.
    its a winning formula.
