Midfielder Mark Tinkler isn’t about to panic despite the poor start to the season, and believes there is plenty to be optimistic about.

‘Obviously we had a poor start but now we have picked up and one defeat doesn’t mean anything,’ he told the club’s official website.

‘They always say that if you are going to do well, you need to win three, draw one and have one defeat in five games. So now we have to go to Gillingham (on Saturday) and get the result.’

Fans will be hoping Hartlepool do get the result, languishing in 14th place and most recently being defeated by Brentford isn’t easy to swallow after narrowly missing out on promotion last year.
