A set of streets in a new housing development are set to be named after some of Hartlepool United’s all time heroes.
The estate near Raby Road will be named after Kenny Johnson and will contain streets named after Tommy McGuigan, Ritchie Humphreys, Micky Barron, Joe Allon, Brian Honour and Watty Moore.
There will also be a central square named after our former chairman Harold Hornsey who saved the club from financial ruin some years ago.
Mayor Stuart Drummond told the Mail that this was a great idea ”I am delighted with the outcome and this will result in a lasting and fitting tribute to some of the club’s most loyal players and officials ahead of its 2008 centenary season.”
HUFC chief executive Russ Green said that he was thrilled by the idea ”To have two current-day players named in the list is also fantastic for the club and we’re delighted with the way people have embraced this innovative idea.”
