Hartlepool United have this afternoon (5:35pm) confirmed the signing of Mansfield Town striker Richie Barker.

We reported earlier today that Barker had been in town discussing personal terms with Pools after the two clubs agreed a transfer fee believed to be around £80,000. Now finally the move as been confirmed by the clubs official SMS service.

Barker’s football league career shows a goal every four games, but since joining Mansfield Town he’s averaged just under a goal every two games with a record of 48 goals in 106 appearances.

After watching the Pools World interview with Barker it’s clear that the decision to leave Mansfield was not taken lightly. He comments on spending 12 to 13 years working hard to become a club captain and how hard it has been to turn he back on that role.

Barker comes across as an honest pro who accepts that he will need to knuckle down and work hard at his new club. If that is the case I have no doubt Richie Barker will become as much loved at Victoria Park as he was at Field Mill, if not more so.

Welcome to Hartlepool United Richie.

One final thing to mention, Barker commented on how he spent four years playing with Andy Monkhouse at Rotherham, reserve team football with Richie Humphreys at Sheffield Wednesday, and alongside Michael Proctor also at Rotherham, and he’s hoping they’ll help him settle into his new club. Watch this space for news of Monkhouse joining Pools permanently very shortly then!

Good news for Dundee United? Does this mean you are preparing to lose Jon Daly and have signed his replacement?

  • DanielGaunt says:

No, we are short of fit strikers. Even if we sign Duffy I don’t think Daly would go.
