Rejuvenated Andy Monkhouse has been hailed by his gaffer Mick Wadsworth, after his latest match winning display on Saturday.
Following a season of unimpressive and under par displays, he was confined to the subs bench against Colchester, and since his return to the starting 11 he has bucked his unwanted season trend and had smashed in 5 goals in 6 games.
”I’ve always fancied him as a striker, as he’s terrific in the air. He’s got a lot of good ingredients to be a striker and he’s a good finisher. He’s proved that in previous seasons.” Wadsworth praised his striking credentials.
He partnered with Ryan Donaldson, and he believes there could be a partnership brewing nicely. ”He’s got a good touch, a good understanding of the game and you can trust him with the ball. He and Ryan combined very well in that first hour.”

Playing Monkhouse as a striker seems to have been a great success. Nevertheless most people agree that playing players out of position is a bad idea, so I guess Mr Wadsworth should stop it immediately. Hope this helps! 🙂
That may be so but it is a sad indictment on each and every one of the clubs ‘strikers’ that a winger-cum-midfielder and a raw youth whose declared preferred position is midfield are the managers first choice to lead the line.
Never mind Joe, we should take the positives out of this as some say. (not me, it’s too trite)
My natural modesty makes me hesitate to mention this, but I advocated Monkhouse in just this position many months ago only to be derided by PooliePoolie amongst others who felt Monky was not a striker in a million years
If he’s playing up front and scoring goals then he has to be enjoying his football! what more do you want from a player? he’s a paid member of the team, they all have a job to do and that is what his manager has asked of him, and god damn he’s doing it well! 50% off all strikers at the end of the season, SALE! SALE! SALE!
