Lanzoni Lands

Hartlepool are not only desperately in need of goals, which we hope our recent additions can bring, we’ve been in need of a defender to help tighten up our leaking defence too.

We’ll be hopeful that we now have this following Matteo Lanzoni’s arrival.

Scott Harrison’s return to Sunderland after his loan ended made a defender arriving paramount for Paul Murray heading into December and all the League 2 games that this will bring, even more so as there will be an inability to add to the squad after 5pm on Thursday when the emergency loan window close.

Italian, which isn’t going to surprise anyone given his name, defender Lanzoni arrives on loan from Cambridge United having travelled around a fair amount in the past 18 months or so since he continued his career in England after spells with Como and Sampdoria in Italy.

In July last year he earned himself a contract with Oldham after a successful trial but he was off to Yeovil in the Championship in January when he turned down an extended deal. That contract was mutually ended in the summer when he left for Cambridge with him now landing at the Vic until the end of December.

Murray knows Lanzoni very well from his time at Oldham so I’ll trust his judgement but it’s a bit concerning that we’ll be his fourth club since less than 18 months of plying his trade in England.
