Hartlepool United have today confirmed that manager Dave Jones has left the club by mutual consent.

The 60 year old returned to football and took the job after a three year absence from the game but Saturday’s defeat to Barnet saw us slip into the relegation zone in League Two and Jones had only taken 13 points from a possible 51 in his time with us.

Saturday also saw Jeff Stelling’s impassioned speech.

Assistant managers Alex Armstrong and Kevin Cooper have also left by mutual consent and defender Matthew Bates has now taken on caretaker duties with two games remaining in the season.

Striker Billy Paynter and coaches Stuart Parnaby and Ian Gallagher will assist Bates during his spell in charge.

With two matches remaining in the year, Hartlepool are now two points behind Newport County who sit in 22nd place.
