Hartlepool United legend Joel Porter has missed out on his world cup dream, with Australia ‘s Provisional squad not including the striker’s name.

Porter -who scored 23 goals last season, has endured a decent start to his Gold Coast career, scoring 5 from the wing, and providing goals for golden boot winner Shane Smeltz. But Joel hasn’t done enough to earn his dream place in South Africa.

The Aussie said a few months back: ”I think Pim probably knows the majority of the players he wants to take to the World Cup, but I think there are those vital last few spots to fight for.”

”Playing in the World Cup is a dream I’ve had since I was a kid. Especially because Australia weren’t there when I was growing up watching it on TV. It’d be amazing to make it to South Africa, not just for me but for my family, friends, the Gold Coast supporters and the people back in Hartlepool.”

Joel Porter topped our player of the decade list back in February.

shame, but no surprise-not a big enough name-and the ‘names’ always get the vote 1st by the majority of managers 🙁

it is tough on Joel in our eyes but he wasn’t involved in the qualifiers (albeit the majority of those being a bit of a farce) and Australia do have some top quality players, a fair few in europe that slip under our radars.

I would have thought they had much better players to be honest. Thats no disrespect to him, but they are one of the higher ranking teams in the world these days.
