Here we go again and I have to say I am very optimistic about Hartlepool’s chances this season. The confidence that will undoubtedly follow last season’s record breaking achievements coupled with some very good signings make me feel that we can hope for a lot more than consolidation.

I know that friendlies are not always a good sign of what is to follow but the side looked organised against Newcastle and the first half performance of Arran Lee-Barrett suggested that he was more than capable of fitting into Dimi’s inconsiderable sized boots. I was even more impressed with Godwin Antwi and Danny is going to have lots of options in defence.

All in all I think a few bob each way on Pools for promotion will give us all a run for our money. Thanks to William Hills they have given me a £50 charity bet on Pools for TFM’s Make Child Smile charity and I’m going £25 each way a little bit extra for myself as well.

I know a lot of you supporters get aggrieved about media coverage of non Premiership teams and I am pleased to confirm that TFM via my shows on a Saturday from 12 till 2 and the Phone In show from 5.30 till 7pm (01642 616666) will continue to give all fans of the regions three teams a chance to air their views. Indeed since I started Poolies have more airtime than Boro or Darlo. It’s up to you. If you are going to Luton take my number and give me a ring on the way home after the game.

Via this column I am going to answer your questions this season, but don’t be too serious, don’t want all Laws of the Game questions, let’s have some banter. You make not like me, you may not agree with me, but I will always let you have it straight.

So here’s looking forward to a great season, Leeds United v Hartlepool United, who would have thought it.
