Former Pools star Adam Boyd got off to a good start at his new club Leyton Orient. Boydie netted an 86th minute winner but was largely disappointing on his first league start for the O’s.

Leeds clawed their way up to -12 after a late win at Tranmere. Tresor Kandol scored a late winner after Tranmere fell to bits in the second half. None of our fellow promoted teams lost on the opening day. Swindon, Bristol Rovers and Walsall all drew 1-1. 36 year-old Tommy Mooney on the score sheet for the Saddlers on his debut.

Crewe stormed to the top of the table (as if it matters) with a win at home to Brighton. The Seagulls should have really won the game but lack of accuracy up front meant Crewe snatched a late, and undeserved, win.

There was more fight off the pitch as Milwall and Donny fans clashed at the Doncaster Dome. The two pre season promotion favourites couldn’t break each other down in the stalemate and settled for a 0-0 draw.

Even though everyone thinks they’ll do well Nottingham Forest could only scrape a 0-0 draw at home to Bournemouth. Another hotly tipped side lost as Swansea went down 2-1 to Oldham.

Huddersfield beat Yeovil 1-0 but supposed Pools target Marcus Stewart put in an impressive performance. 3 players were sent off as Cheltenham beat Gillingham 1-0.
