Jonathan Franks has said he’s determined to repeat his first round heroics and put us through to round three of the FA Cup when we face Blyth Spartans this weekend.

Having grabbed both goals in the game against East Thurrock in the opening round, Franks told the Official Site that he was looking forward to playing another major role in the game on Friday.

‘It’s a very exciting tie. It’s obviously that little bit extra special because it has a derby feel to it and they’re bringing a few fans so I’m sure the atmosphere will be pretty good too. I do want to try and build on what I did in the last round, I was pleased to get a couple of goals and help us through to round two so my target now is to try and get on the scoresheet again.’

Franks adds that hopefully Hartlepool can get an early grip on the game, as he’s expecting it to be a tough battle, but if we can put ourselves a goal or two ahead early on it’ll stand us in good stead in his eyes and help us to see the game out hopefully more comfortably.

‘Hopefully if we can get a couple of goals early on in the game then that can settle things down and make sure they can’t get any sort of foothold. We controlled the game well against East Thurrock and didn’t give them too many chances – so if we can do similar on Friday and be more ruthless in the attacking third then we’ll get the result.’

Franks says that the Cup encounter will be a nice break from the league, and hopefully it’s also a game that we can use to give us some good confidence that we can then take back into the League Two campaign, but of course the opposition will be up for the game so we have to match that and let our quality come through, and he knows that if we play as well as we can then he’s confident it’ll be a good game for us and we’ll get the result that we want.
