Injured Hartlepool United goalkeeper Scott Flinders has wished Jake Kean the best of luck as the youngster takes his place between the sticks.

Kean performed well on his debut as Pools drew 0-0 at Brentford on Saturday and Flinders, who faces 3 months out, was full praise for the Blackburn stopper.

”I heard he did really well at the weekend and I’m really pleased for Jake.” he told the official site.

”I spoke to him on Friday and I sent him a good luck text on Saturday morning – he’s a great lad and you can see he has that Premier League quality.”

Flinders had a successful operation on his thumb injury on Tuesday and says how his injury gives Kean a perfect chance to impress.

”It reminds me a little of how I got my chance at Barnsley when Ross Turnbull was injured – I got my lucky break there and I hope he takes his the same way I took mine.”
