Fair Point For Coops

Manager Colin Cooper has said that the point we received from the trip to Accrington Stanley was fair in the end, although we were obviously looking for a return of all three.

A scoreless draw for the gaffer was a just reward for what was a battling display from the lads, and he explained to the Official Site that he couldn’t be overly disappointed with a point because on our travels in the last two games we had lost, so it was vital we came away with something if we couldn’t manage the win.

‘My challenge was worst case we come away with something, keep a clean sheet and then let’s see. I thought as the game went on I fancied us to nick on but it didn’t quite happen and I think James Beattie will probably feel the same.’

Cooper goes on to say that he has to give credit where it’s due because his scouting reports had talked about the performance levels of their two centre halves Aldred and Winnard, and he describes them as being very solid during the game which was what he expected as he was informed they were ‘outstanding’ in the game against Chesterfield, but what pleased him was defensively we were equally as solid and stood up to their forward line just as well.

Being very humble Cooper adds that it’s probably just a case of saying congratulations to both teams for their organisation and discipline on the day, and neither team were particularly fantastic in the final third, but again that was due to the strength of the respective defences.

We have kept a clean sheet though, and brought that run of losses to an end, and he’s pleased enough with that, believing a point a piece was the fair result.
