Hartlepool United striker Denis Behan could be set to leave the club after Cork City opened negotiations for the player.

Behan has been out in the cold at Victoria Park and hasn’t made an appearance in the first team squad since October.

Now he could be set to return to his former club after Cork manager Tommy Dunne admitted he’s started negotiations with Pools boss Mick Wadsworth about a loan deal.

Behan, whose contract with Pools expires in the summer, joined the club in July 2009 and scored 6 goals in 33 appearances in his debut season with the club.

He looked decent at the start, but is now down in the pecking order. Shame as he seems a decent bloke, but it would be better for him and also for us to start making spce on the wage bill.

Probably the right thing to do – Behan’s an honest trier and you can’t fault his effort but he just isn’t League One standard (see also Mackay, Bjornsson et al). I think if we can shift two or three of the surplus strikers out and replace them with one quality forward who can bang a few goals in it could just be the final piece of the jigsaw we need for that play-off push.
