Collins In For The Duration

Sam Collins has been as vocal off the pitch as he’s been on it recently with him having plenty to say to sportmail in the past few days, and they’ve managed to get another interview out of the defender today.

Coops had already said that age wasn’t a issue for him when selecting the 36-year-old and Collins is as fit as anyone at the moment, with this something that he pay a particular strong interest in maintaining.

With a desire to keep playing as strong as ever, but with him also knowing that at his age his career is nearing an end, his love of it isn’t decreasing at all and the more chances he is given by Coops to play the more he intends to take them to keep his place in the side.

‘I love playing and I always have done right from the age of 16’

‘I will never stop loving it.

‘Playing football is the best thing ever for me and when you get older and don’t know how long you have left you do appreciate it a little bit more and have to make the most of any chances.

‘That is what I intend to do, for the love of playing.’

I’ve made it clear that I think we still need to see Coops move into the loan market and secure us another younger defender but I’ve never forgotten the fact that we know what Collins is capable of and that he isn’t going to let us down.

Collins is proving, even if I base this on what I’m reading and not what I’m seeing, he’s still up to the task so I’m now coming round to the idea that we could well have him as Jack Baldwin’s replacement for the duration of this season.

If the cleansheets keeping coming with him in the side it’s hard to argue against his selection.
