Former Hartlepool United winger Ali Gibb has announced his retirement from professional foootball.

The right winger was released by Pools at the end of last season after spending 6 months on loan at Notts County.

Gibb signed from Bristol Rovers in August 2006 and made 40 appearances during his spell at Victoria Park. He also spent time at Northampton Town, Stockport County and Norwich City.

He told the Northern Echo that the time was right to retire ”I know people might think that this is premature at the age of 32 but I have got to think what is going to be most beneficial for me at this stage of my career.”

”I have been offered work for a couple of companies and there could be a possibility of part-time football.”

”I went on loan to Notts County last season and got injured. I just knew at the end of the season that the time was right to call it a day and you have got to judge these things on their merits.”

Although he had many critics Gibb always gave 100% and Vital Hartlepool wishes him the best for the future.
