Goals from young trio Jack Baldwin, James Poole and Greg Rutherford helped Hartlepool to a win at fellow strugglers Portsmouth.
Report
John Hughes was forced to turn to his younger players as injuries ruled out veteran duo Steve Howard and Antony Sweeney from the game at Portsmouth.

Jack Baldwin and James Poole were the replacements and the pair responded with a goal apiece before sub Greg Rutherford added a third goal late on.

Baldwin nodded Pools in front with his second header in two matches midway through the first half before James Poole raced through the Pompey defence to add a second at the start of the second half.

Jed Wallace pulled a goal back for the home side with just over 20 minutes of the game remaining but a late strike from young substitute Greg Rutherford sealed all three points for the away side.

Not getting over excited, as we beat a team that is posable a worse team the ours in this league, they haven’t won in 15 games a the average player only stays 3 weeks at the club..
Ill be a little more excited and thinks could e changing when I see us win two + games in a row

I think it’s gonna take more than a two-game winning streak to get us out of the hole we’re in at the moment! Still, from small acorns and all that – least it should hopefully give the lads a bit of a confidence boost for the Notts game on Saturday. I actually think we look a better side without Howard huffing and puffing (and failing to score) up front – Wyke and Poole may not be the finished article but at least they’ve both got a bit of pace and it gives us an option that doesn’t involve the long ball to no-one that we always seem to use when Howard plays.
