Those infamous words “Sky Sports understands” have been spoken this week with Hartlepool seeing interest grow in Luke James, apparently.

Not for the first time this season though Colin Cooper has moved to dismiss the thoughts that Pools are under pressure to sell him, or anyone else. Cooper did admit that enquires for players have been made but it doesn’t mean they’ll be sold.

If the right offer is made though this could change, however it does have to be a very good offer.

The Pools boss told the Northern Echo: ‘We have had phone calls about our players, I won’t lie about that. But the good thing about Hartlepool is that we don’t have to sell players. We can see where things are and there’s only a few days left of the transfer window. I’d be surprised if anyone came in and made a call.

‘It’s down to other clubs, but I don`t have to sell and it’s great for Hartlepool that we have players who people want to pay good money for.

‘I think we have some real assets, some saleable assets here, but I had a long conversation with the chairman last week and we don`t have to sell anybody because of the way the club is run.

‘It’s a real shot in the arm that we have players who are attracting interest.’

It is a theory that could be put to the test this week, the sooner the transfer window closes the better though perhaps as it will remove all the rumour and speculation surrounding the players at Victoria Park.
