This week Hartlepool United announced their decision to stop playing on Friday nights, but was it a good thing.

Pools enjoyed several fantastic evenings on a Friday night, but Chief Exec Russ Green said. ”When we started doing it I think it was a bit of a novelty factor and we enjoyed some great nights, both in terms of results and attendances.

”However, attendances at these fixtures have now dropped off and we understand that some fans travel long distances and such games are not ideal.”

Pools’ best games on Friday nights were the sell-out 3-0 win over Sheffield Wednesday. As the rain pounced down Adam Boyd ripped the Owls defence apart, by scoring his first senior hat-trick.

Months before that famous victory, Pools entertained Grimsby Town and ran out 8-1 winners. Some great nights but also some embarrassing nights. Games against Bury, York and Barnsley have all been stopped midway through the game due to floodlight failure.
