In something of an ironic move Simon Walton has joined Stevenage, who will be the first League 2 opponents that we face this season.

The former Hartlepool midfielder, a regular in the side under Coops last season but one of those shown the door after two seasons at the Vic, has signed a contract of an unannounced length with Stevenage.

When we make the trip to Broadhall Way to start the new season we’ll not come up against him though as due to his sending off against Morecambe on Easter Monday, in a key win at the Vic, he was handed a four match suspension that carries on into the new season.

Now doubt, if he’s not suspended or injured, he’ll be keen to impress at the Vic in the return meeting though.
