The League 2 season continued with the latest round of games played during midweek.
Doncaster moved clear at the top with Rovers, Plymouth and Portsmouth set to finish in the top three. Newport moved off the bottom of the league ahead of fellow strugglers Leyton Orient.

Wednesday 15th March 2017 – LEAGUE TWO

Doncaster came from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Notts County to move six points clear at the top of the Table. Despite a second defeat in three the Magpies remain eight points from dangers.
A third successive win – to move 12 points clear of trouble – should have all but secured Accrington’s Football League survival. The likelihood of Leyton Orient dropping into non-league was increased after Orient – who are now bottom of the league and seven points from safety – were thrashed 5-0 at the Crown Ground.
The third win in four was secured by Blackpool after a 1-0 victory over in-form potential play-off rivals Stevenage. Pools are now three points off the top seven having climbed up to eighth, Boro dropped to sixth after a first defeat in 10.
Cambridge’s play-off hopes were dealt a blow as Hartlepool won for a third time in four games against the 10 man U’s. This first away win since early October took Pools nine points above the bottom two.
The winless Carlisle run was extended to five but they did end a four game losing run after a 0-0 draw with promotion rivals Luton. The Hatters are a place and a point below the Cumbrians in fifth.
Colchester’s first win in four brought them back into play-off contention. However, this 2-0 defeat for Mansfield – who are now four without a win – at the Weston Homes Community Stadium was a second in a row with the Stags now five points off the top seven.
The poor Crawley form continued with it now six without a win after Crewe secured a 3-0 victory. Alexandra’s second win in three took them 10 points above the bottom two and well set for another season in League 2.
After successive defeats Exeter maintained a three points advantage over the play-off chasing pack with a 3-0 win over Cheltenham. The Robins are only a place above the bottom two – having failed to win in three – but hold a seven point advantage.
Midtable Morecambe suffered a third successive defeat as Newport – a second in a row – moved off the foot of the Football League following a 1-0 victory at the Globe Arena. The Exiles are still seven points from safety though.
Portsmouth’s third successive win was secured when Grimsby – who saw their outside hopes of making it into the top seven dealt a blow – were seen off 4-0 at Fratton Park. Victory for Pompey took them six points clear of fourth placed Carlisle.
The opportunity to get back into play-off contention was missed by Wycombe when the Chairboys lost the lead against title hopefuls Plymouth. This 1-1 draw saw the Pilgrims drop six points off Doncaster with the advantage over Portsmouth cut to four.
