The leadership has changed recently with Doncaster now out in front. They’ll face previous long-term leaders Plymouth in a big promotion battle at Home Park. The Pilgrims have lost three in a row to drop to third in recent weeks and aren’t going to want to slip up again.
Carlisle’s ideal result would be a draw in that game and a win for them to regain top spot once again! However, the Cumbrians face fellow promotion rivals Luton at Kenilworth Road.
If these two games ended in draws then Portsmouth would have the chance to close the gap on the top three. Paul Cook takes his side to Grimsby with Pompey in fourth but seven points behind Plymouth – the Mariners are just outside of the top seven.
At the other end an all Westcountry meeting will see struggling Cheltenham and Exeter meet at Whaddon Road. The Robins have dropped to second-bottom recently but the Grecians are only just outside the relegation zone themselves.
Crewe and Crawley will both have play-off aspirations going into this game at Gresty Road. The closer to this prior to kick off are the Railwaymen but this league can change quickly!
That point is proven when it comes to Hartlepool and Cambridge in many ways as both sides have gone up and down the table quickly. They meet with little between the sides as well as a small margin between a play-off or relegation battle.
Leyton Orient have changed managers more times than they’ve won this season! Ok, perhaps not quite literally but not too far off it. They host fellow strugglers Accrington with Mansfield and Colchester again falling into that category of ‘could go either way’ before they meet at Field Mill.
Despite losing three in a row to be at the base of the Football League Newport know a win against Morecambe could take them out of the relegation zone. The Shrimpers are five points clear of this at the moment.
It wasn’t too long ago that Notts County were challenging for promotion and Wycombe looking at a possible relegation battle. The roles have reversed now with the Chairboys looking for another win to keep a promotion push on track whilst plunging the Magpies further into trouble.
Only goal difference separate Stevenage and Blackpool ahead of this meeting. Both sides are also just a point from a play-off place so if we see a winner here the chances are this team will be in the top seven come 5pm on Saturday.
That will also be the aim of Yeovil and Barnet. The Glovers are in the top seven at the moment but the Bees go to Huish Park knowing a win would see them climb above them.
It goes without saying the expectation; most definitely the hope at least, will be for a positive result. But will this happen? We’ll find out soon enough.
