Hartlepool were beaten 5-0 by Cambridge in League 2 on Saturday.

A second half capitulation condemned Hartlepool to a Cambridge mauling at Victoria Park. All five goals came in the second period including four in the space off 19 minutes as the pressure increased on Craig Hignett.

Cambridge had the chance to take a first half lead when Toto Nsiala brought down Luke Berry. However, Trevor Carson ensured Hartlepool went into the break on level terms when he saved Berry’s spot kick.

Carson was beaten for the first time early in the second half when James Dunne fired in. Goals from Berry, Leon Legge and Uche Ikpeazu followed as Cambridge took control. The fifth came two minutes from time when substitute Max Clark got in on the act with his effort deflected past the Northern Ireland international.

This 5-0 defeat followed up the 4-0 thrashing by Port Vale in the FA Cup a week earlier.

There is a saying KISS ……. keep it simple stupid !!!! I am a fan of Craig Hignett but he keeps swaping the full backs the centre half’s the formations and then complains about mistakes. Craig keep the back FOUR settled so the players play with each other get some protection infront of the back FOUR so that centre halfs are not playing full back and giving away a penalty and goals every game. Pools have lost their way since swapping and changing from 351 to 442 to 351 to 442. They need it simple to follow and perform…………… please
