Turner: Gamble Can Be The New Tommy Widdrington

Hartlepool United Director of Sport Chris Turner has likened new signing Joe Gamble to former Pools favourite Tommy Widdrington.

Turner brought Widdrington to the club in 2001 and he hopes that the signing of Gamble will have the same effect ”Joe’s a ball-winning, passing midfield player who will give us some good experience in the squad.

”A number of years ago we brought in Tommy Widdrington who was a good talker on the pitch and those types of players are invaluable because I don’t think players talk enough these days.

”I’ve felt he is the type of player we’ve been lacking and we’re delighted we’ve been able to bring him to Victoria Park.”

Turner told the official site that he would add some much needed steel to the midfield ”He’s played at international level and also has some experience of the English game so I think he’ll prove a good addition to the squad.

”I think he’s the type of player the fans will take to – he plays with passion and that is something that supporters always like to see. He wears his heart on his sleeve but he can play football, can organise in midfield and talks and communicates on the pitch.”
