Coops insists that he’s ‘working around the clock’ this summer in order to bring the players to Hartlepool that he wants.

He’s told the official website that it’s a case of getting the right blend of player that can cope with the demands of League 2 football but he also wants to have winners at the Vic that can make us competitive.

What he has asked for though is patience from those looking on awaiting news.

‘Firstly, you have to ask can they handle a football because ultimately the way I want to do things they have to be able to do so no matter what position they play.

‘They also have to be able to handle the physicality and be good people and professionals – I’m trying to get a dressing room of winners who want to do well for themselves and Hartlepool.

‘We have to try and create the right mix; if you have some older professionals who can lead the young players in the right way and set standards then the younger ones bring the energy and enthusiasm.

‘The window is open until it’s open – we all want to have our squads assembled before pre-season but in reality that probably won’t happen but let’s try and get as close as we possibly can and that will allow us to start the work on team bonding, team shape and the philosophies I want to get across to the players.’

You do want your squad, or most of it, in place for when the season does start so all being well we can be in the position to have that in place for pre season.

I’m not expecting too many players to come to the Vic but think if we could add a little more experience in certain areas then this will supplement the quality developing younger players that we already have at the club.
