Which as much as Ronnie Moore has applauded Salford City for the performance they put in as Hartlepool overcame the non-league side to make it into the third round of the FA Cup (after the two-nil extra time win) he also knows Pools need to improve.

Scott Fenwick and Mikael Mandron, obviously both in extra time, scored the goals to set up a meeting with Derby in January when Hartlepool will have to be much better of they’ll have little (to no) chance against the Championship side.

Talking on the Official Site after the game Moore said.

‘It’s no good for my health when you look at that. Salford played brilliantly and the two lads can be proud of their side really; I think they will be gutted they haven’t won the game because it took us 45 minutes to get going.

‘All the crowd want to see is someone lighting the blue touch paper but we looked so nervous and you can see a few of them are a bit low on confidence.’

Having lost four-nil at Portsmouth at the weekend claiming a cleansheet was something that did please Moore, even if he would have preferred Hartlepool not to have needed extra time to get through.

As regards to the improvement needed he added.

‘We should be doing better than that; no disrespect to Salford City but we need to express ourselves and perform to the manner I know we can do.

‘The pleasing thing is we kept the clean sheet but it`s half an hour extra we could have done without because we ran miles on Saturday and we`ve run a few more tonight.’

Fortune was with Pools on Tuesday, Moore finished by conceding that much but he’s happy to see a tie with Derby secured.

‘We’ve been a bit fortunate but we’re in the next round and there is a nice tie to come now.’
