Hartlepool Reserves lost against their Gateshead counterparts for the second time in a week at the International Stadium tonight.

Pools named Antony Sweeney, Nobby Solano, Colin Larkin and James Brown in their starting line-up alongside trialists Alex Cooper and Stephen Wright.

Former Hartlepool player Jonny Rowell started for the home side as he continues his trial period at the Heed.

Pools were one down within 15 minutes when a ball in from defender Rob Briggs found Gary Mulligan in the area and he slotted the ball past Liam Mooney.

It was the home side on top for much of the first half with Pools not having a shot on target until just before half time but they were unable to break the deadlock.

Mulligan doubled the score soon after the break with a good finish after a simple ball over the top.

Pools pulled one back just after the hour when a Darren Holden corner was headed home by Lewis Hawkins, there was some claims from the Heed defence that the ball hadn’t crossed the line but the linesman judged the ball to have crossed the line.

It was an improved second half performance from Pools but they were unable to grab an equaliser, falling to their second defeat against the Tyneside club in the space of seven days.
