Goalkeeper Andy Rafferty has today cancelled his Hartlepool United contract by mutual consent.

The 26 year old leaves the club with immediate effect having joined us back in the summer of 2010 from Guisborough Town and he obviously went on to be the deputy to Scott Flinders.

Having been ruled out for the entire 2012-13 season following a serious knee injury, he recovered and went on to make three starts for the first team last campaign and has been a regular in our reserve side.

With opportunities for further first team action being limited, he has only made seven appearances throughout his four year stay at Victoria Road and the decision has been made to let him moev on so he can hopefully get more game action under his belt.

Having figured during pre season, he picked up an injury that ruled him out of our first two games this year and manager Colin Cooper wouldn’t be drawn on the injury saying the club was ‘keeping it in house’ at the press conference earlier today, and then the statement was released, so obviously negotiations were on going and it wouldn’t have been appropriate to comment at that stage.

Rafferty himself has taken to social media and said.

‘Would just like to wish all at @Official_HUFC for a great four years at the club. I have loved every minute. However it is time for a fresh start. I wish the gaffa, Pearsy and all the lads every success in the future.’
