Sheffield United have hardly been ripping up any trees this season have they but they would’ve been most people’s favourites against Hartlepool on Tuesday night.

Colin Cooper was delighted to prove the papers and bookies wrong following our 1-0 win at Bramall Lane in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.

A 4-1 weekend win over Mansfield was a great result for Pools and Cooper was keen to see that followed up with a positive outcome in Yorkshire and that was the case, more so the case that was deserved.

He told the Evening Gazette: ‘I think we deserved it.

‘We wanted to follow up Saturday`s win and, while we defended really well, the lads said that they can play better. That’s a good sign.’

The hosts, as you’d expect, put us under pressure but the boss was happy with how this was dealt with and thought Pools counter attacked well and got the winning goal.

Perhaps more could have come but one was enough…

Cooper added: ‘I thought we absorbed what Sheffield United presented us with and counter attacked nicely.

‘Away from home we are set up nicely for that.

‘We scored one and could have had more. It was a fantastic all-round effort.’

A place in the next round of the JPT is good news for us, another win even better with that cracking win at the One Call Stadium followed up.

More of the same would be more than welcomed!
