Goals from Ritchie Jones and Tom Marron helped Hartlepool Reserves consolidate their position at the top of the League with a win over Grimsby.

A strong Pools side featured the likes of Peter Hartley, Ritchie Jones and Colin Larkin and it was Jones who gave Pools the lead with the first attack of the game.

A Grimsby corner was cleared to Jones who broke down the left before confidently slotting the ball past Rob Peet in the home goal.

It was Pools in control for much of the first half as Michael Mackay headed over a Ritchie Jones cross. The hosts regained control after the break and trialist keeper Andy Rafferty did well to deny Adam Proudlock early in the second period.

Pools had another trialist in the form of Darren Lough, the Newcastle left back played the full 90 and he was on the winning side as Pools doubled their advantage on the hour mark.

A Ritchie Jones cross found Tom Marron in the box, the defender headed home to make the score 2-0. It was Pools who looked most likely to add to the scoring as Mackay and Colin Larkin both went close in the later stages.
