Hartlepool’s unbeaten run was extended and even though the draw at Newport ended our winning run it’s another good point, which we would have taken before the game.

The disappointment from this two-two draw though at Rodney Parade was the fact that we had been two-up at one point on Good Friday.

With most things going right for us at the moment it wasn’t too much of a surprise when we took the lead early on as Minshull (15) put through his own net. The lead was doubled when Hugill (37) followed up to force the ball home after Franks had hit the bar.

As half time approached Jones (44) cut the deficit to give Newport hope at the break.

It wasn’t long after the break that Newport made it two-two, when O’Connor (48) scored and that’s how it ended.

Both sides, in the quests to achieve different goals this season – Newport promotion via he play-offs and us, of course, to avoid relegation – will be relatively happy as our hosts stay in a good place while we remain a place above the bottom two.
